Pisa is crossed by the Arno river, one of the most important rivers of Tuscany. Following the path of the river you can see the city from a unique perspective, rich in fascination and charm.
Boat trips on the Arno river last about an hour: it starts from Scalo Roncioni in front of the Prefecture and go up against the river to the Garden Scotto and then go back and make a stop at the Cittadella.
It is a pleasant and educational itinerary because on both banks of the Arno you can admire Renaissance palaces, medieval towers and historic churches.
Along the river, however, are several other ports from which to get up or own the boat.
The main points of interest of the boat trips are the first Cathedral of Pisa, the city hall, the library designed by Michelangelo, the Old Fortress, the complex of San Michele agli Scalzi, the complex of St. Matthew, the oldest Jewish neighborhood, the Ponte di Mezzo, Garibaldi square, the rector of the University and the Royal Palace.
Typically these mini-river cruises are organized regularly in the summer for large groups of up to 25 people but have to book well in advance.
You can choose among several boat trips and so not remain only within the city but also explore the nature trails of the Park of San Rossore then coming up to Bocca d’Arno, the point where the river flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea between.

The Christmas season is full of events both in Pisa and Livorno. To celebrate this period the two cities are decorated to the nines with lots of lights and Christmas trees in the most strategic locations.
For at least a month in the city’s main squares of Pisa you can see three fir trees decorated with balls and colored lights. They are located in Piazza delle Vettovaglie, in Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Arcivescovado.
The path of the Arno River through the city is illuminated too with small LED lights, as well as some bridges and certain ancient gates.
It is often broadcast Christmas music and in the weekends of December you can see shows and theme concerts.
The calendar of Christmas events in Livorno is just as rich. Every year there are Christmas markets and stalls of various kinds that animate the main streets of the historic center.
For the amusement of all the children, at the Christmas village you can also write the letter and meet Santa Claus in person. Not far from the stands of exhibitors you can also watch various themed shows and do ice skating.
Do not miss the appointment with the street performers in Via della Madonna that is repeated every year on the eve and always received a huge success.
